Introducing ‘Waimea's Untreated

Douglas Fir Solutions’

For LOW, MEDIUM and HIGH Risk Buildings

The DBH have achieved a new & simpler timber treatment system effective 01 July 2011.

Waimea have applied this new system to illustrate to you how untreated Douglas fir is permitted in LOW, MEDIUM and HIGH risk building designs.

Low Risk Buildings   Permitted under: Acceptable Solution B2/AS1

Medium, High Risk Buildings & Commercial Buildings Permitted through Alternative Solutions in compliance with
NZS 3602:2003, specifically low risk applications – internal wall framing and roof framing >10 deg.

We’ve created a simple document that:

• clearly summarises the changes in relation to untreated Douglas fir
• explains the low risk conditions
• includes a diagram that clearly illustrates the Acceptable & Alternative solutions in buildings with
low to high risk matrix scores
Waimea offers a Timber Design Advisory Service to help clients maximise the use of untreated Douglas fir (using Acceptable & Alternative solutions), minimising the overall treatment.
